Hmm... lots of food for thought. Did you see the study that was released this week about online activity causing anxiety? I can totally see that. How you choose to spend your time online, or even in the company of real people, has a lot to do with your state of mind and also a great impact on your state of mind.

I think the struggle is to try and protect our own well being without being necessarily drawn in to negative spaces about which we can't do anything. Supporting a friend through a rough time is an important and human thing to do. But friends who only ever ask us to listen to their negativity without giving anything back are energy suckers (and not radiators!!).

I think what I'm trying to say is there are shades of dark and light. You would only sound like you had lost touch with reality, I think, if you shut out any friends who were not having a good time, if you failed to be supportive - also when things are not so great for you, no one would be there for you and that would be lonely. But cutting out internet strangers who fill your head with negativity is an entirely different thing. There should be more of it.

I've always wanted my blog to be a happy corner of the internet. It's not white washed and perfect but the focus is largely on the positive. Why spill bile and negativity into the universe? It's only going to come back to me some time.

Now you have me thinking about stuff I write about. I'm sure some of it is happy stuff. I know exactly what you mean though. I read to be entertained. I feel the same way about all those pictures of dogs with "about to be put down, someone please rescue" posts on my Facebook page.

I must sheepishly admit I edited the India Knight quote - it does have an "a" and the c word on either side of selfish ;) but the message is still the same!!

And this, from you - "I’m trying to come up with a way to celebrate and enjoy this time in my life, and to blog about it without sounding like somebody who has lost touch with reality. I just want to show how grateful I am for all the blessings I have" - me too. Me too. x

I made up Gratituesday for that very reason. Well, partly for that reason. I made it up so it reminded me to focus on looking for good stuff through the week - particularly the little good stuff that perhaps wasn't quite as obvious as the big good stuff. And by posting about it I hoped that I'd pay more attention to all the good, happy, positive things happening in my world and also hoped I might get my friends joining in and thinking about the good stuff they've got going on. I love clicking onto the blog or facebook (yes, I know you've left fb behind) and seeing a friend doing a random Gratituesday status update, especially when it's not a Tuesday at all :) I haven't done a Gratituesday post in a while but I really need to get back to them. Good thing it's Tuesday today, huh?
