The shot I simply couldn't miss!

I have loaded a few images from the wedding onto my Flickr page – here is the direct link.

(The pictures are there in my Flickr sidebar but they’re in reverse order, so instead please follow this link to take you to Flickr where you can view the Set in chronological order. Thanks.)

LOVe the “bride gets the giggles” shot. They are all gorgeous!

I’ve debated whether or not to comment and I want to. Is the picture suppose to be blurry? I don’t know that much about photography and don’t want to seem insulting or anything but I don’t get it.

@ Michelle – thanks for your question. It’s a good one. And I’m going to answer it more fully in a Lessons Learned post in the very near future.

But for now, there are two things about this picture that give it that grainy, blurred look. Number one, I was shooting in fairly low light and, in hindsight, didn’t have the settings on my camera in the best possible configuration to compensate for that. So the shot I got, the straight-out-of-the-camera shot, was a bit blurred. Number two, I added the grainy effect in Photoshop. I decided that the best thing about this picture was the fact that I captured the moment when the bride and groom kissed, and that this is a once-in-a-lifetime moment and the classic wedding picture. Do I wish it was a better photo? Absolutely. But I immediately saw it as a great black and white shot, so I changed it to black and white and added the grain to make it look a bit ‘vintage’. A bit more ‘classic’, if you like.

It’s still one of my favourites from the day. It’s not the best picture technically, but it’s one of the best Wedding Pictures, and so I’m really happy with it.
